A Study on the Regulation of the Indoor Fire Evacuation Paths in Germany

초록

This study attempted to clarify the regulations on indoor fire evacuation paths of German general buildings (‘Gebaeude’) by considering the regulations on buildings, the regulations on fire comp artment and smok e compartment, and the regulations on indoor fire evacuation paths of general buildings, focusing on the Model Building Regulation( M B O ), a federal law in Germany. T he results of the study are as follows. First, Germany's regulations on indoor evacuation paths related to general buildings specifically and precisely stipulated evacuation safety by linking the grade classification criteria for buildings (‘Gebaeudeklasse’) with building fire compartment and indoor fire evacuation p aths elements. Second, German general buildings' indoor fire evacuation paths detailed evacuation corridors, evacuation stairs, evacuation stairwells, special evacuation stairs, and evacuation windows. T hird, regarding the comp osition of indoor evacuation p aths, evacuation paths had to provide two-way evacuation-oriented evacuation safety by securing primary and secondary evacuation paths, but if a special evacuation stairwell was installed, only the primary evacuation path was found to be legitimate. Fourth, the length of the evacuation paths was stipulated to be up to 35m, and the length of the evacuation corridor was allowed to be up to 30m in the smoke compartment and at this time the installation of smoke-proof doors was stipulated to be automatically closed. The length of the evacuation corridor, which has one evacuation direction, was defined as up to 15m.
