Evaluating the performance of hydrothermally prepared TbMnO3 coupled with PANI for OER

Environmental deterioration and energy shortages are worldwide issues, necessitating usage of alternative energy ways to reduce usage of fossil fuels. Electrochemical water splitting is an innovative process for creating renewable energy from hydrogen fuel; however, the slow rate of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) limits its effectiveness. Therefore, the development of new catalytic materials exhibiting high activity and durability for OER has emerged as a primary research focus. In the present work, TbMnO3/PANI hybrid was prepared by hydrothermal technique for OER. The prepared samples were assessed via several approaches to ascertain their physicochemical features. Compared to pure TbMnO3, the TbMnO3/PANI catalyst delivered low eta (overpotential) of 201 mV at benchmark current density (j) of 10 mA/cm2, suggesting improved catalytic efficacy. The TbMnO3/PANI nanohybrid exhibited a considerably improved ECSA (electrochemically active surface area) of 412.5 cm2 and notably greater Cdl (double-layer capacitance) of 16.5 mF/cm2. Moreover, the nanohybrid demonstrated outstanding endurance of 50 h, as assessed through chronoamperometry test. The results suggest that the designed electrocatalyst may substantially enhance OER performance, offering a feasible approach for advancing future renewable energy applications.
