Solvothermally designed ZnSe anchored on g-C3N4 as highly active electrocatalysts for OER

High-performance yet affordable water oxidation electrocatalysts are required for the success of renewable energy conversion and storage methodologies. We introduce a unique ZnSe/g-C3N4 composite as a promising electrocatalyst in this study and show how well it works as a catalyst to oxidize water in 1.0 M KOH solution. A ZnSe/g-C3N4 composite comprising multi-layered g-C3N4 support exhibits remarkable electrocatalytic properties, including a minimal catalyzing potential of 1.27 V (vs. RHE), Tafel value of 55 mV/dec, and overpotential of 146 mV@10 mA cm-2. At a potential of 2.0 V vs. RHE, ZnSe/g-C3N4 displays enhanced current density (j) of (570 mA cm-2) when compared to pristine ZnSe (320 mA cm-2) and g-C3N4 (285 mA cm-2). The ZnSe/ g-C3N4 composite also exhibits impressive electrochemical stability over 20 h. This research offers a simple synthetic strategy to create widely useful, inexpensive, binder-free electrocatalysts.
