High performance and selective NO2 gas sensor operating at room temperature based on CuO/Ti3C2Tx nanostructures

The detection of toxic gas molecules at room temperature is commonly desired in health protection and environmental issues but presents significant challenges in the gas sensing materials prepared so far. Here, we prepared a gas sensor based on CuO/Ti3C2Tx heterostructures with rich active sites and high surface area for NO2 detection. The optimized CuO/Ti3C2Tx composite reveals a good response (15.6 % to 10 ppm NO2), high selectivity, and good cycling stability. The junctions play a crucial role in charge-transfer properties via conduction tunneling, while the abundant oxygen vacancies offer active sites for sensing NO2. This research provides an efficient pathway for studying high-performance NO2 sensors through the rational design of active sites.
