초록

The optical source for fluorescence microscopy in surgery has been replaced with a light-emitting diode (LED), which is harmless to humans. However, due to low power, LEDs are unable to induce fluorescence emission. This study proposes an asymmetrically irradiated LED array to achieve improved power of an optical source. In addition, a ring-type array was designed to increase the beamwidth and the power received by the target. The incidence angle for LEDs with the maximum working distance (WD) was optimized to 15.37 degrees, and the experiment was conducted using CAD software and a 3D printer. The optical source performance was evaluated by comparing it to a conventional LED, and the desired irradiation area. Consequently, the power of 4.63 mW and illuminance of 1153 lx were obtained, satisfying the conditions for fluorescence emission, and an irradiance of at least 45.00 was determined within the desired irradiation area. The power required to reach the target was mathematically analyzed based on the WD and excitation power, and the simulation results were verified considering the specifications of the LED. The corresponding results demonstrate the effectiveness of the multiasymmetric irradiation method. Here, the optimal parameters of an optical source inducing fluorescence emission with a limited number of LEDs at a maximum WD, considering a wide beamwidth and irradiation area are exhibited. Therefore, the proposed method may be applicable in the clinical field through semiconductor fabrication.
