A Comparative Analysis of Quantity Takeoff and Design Service Costs in CAD- and BIM-Based Mechanical Systems Design: Focusing on a Dormitory Extension Project

초록

This study compares CAD and BIM-based design for mechanical systems in a dormitory using a case study, focusing on material quantities and design service costs. BIM reduced material quantities by 36% in sanitary piping, 16% in heating and cooling piping, 50% in exhaust ducts, 12% in fire protection piping, and 30% in gas piping, resulting in a material cost saving of 24,075 KRW/m². Although design service costs increased by 2,194 KRW/m², total construction costs decreased by 21,881 KRW/m² (6.34%). These findings indicate that BIM enhances economic efficiency and design quality despite increased design effort.
