초록
This study was conducted to qualitatively explore the factors shaping perceived “distance” toward Korean dance in contemporary society and to derive activation strategies that can enhance cultural sustainability. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with three Korean dance experts and three secondary physical education teachers. The interview transcripts were analyzed through repeated reading, open coding, and categorization. The findings indicated that perceived distance was reinforced by the combined effects of unfamiliarity and perceived difficulty, low exposure, lack of familiarity, and weakened empathy and interest. Cultural sustainability could not be secured by the normative claim of preservation alone; instead, expanded educational experiences and the accumulation of participation emerged as key conditions. The proposed activation strategies emphasized expanding points of contact through media exposure and the educational use of audiovisual materials. In school settings, these strategies focused on designing learning experiences that reduce the burden of the first encounter and establishing structures that enable participation to accumulate and continue. This study is significant in that it frames the activation of Korean dance not as publicity-centered, but as a process grounded in accumulated participation experiences and strengthened linkage-based foundations, as understood through the perceptions of Korean dance experts and secondary physical education teachers.
