초록

Background: Trans-sacral epiduroscopic laser decompression (t-SELD) has been developed as one of the spine surgeries for patients with a herniated lumbar disc. The purpose of this chapter is to examine and better understand the indication of this procedure and function of laser in epidural space. Method: t-SELD is performed in patients with back pain and radiculopathy due to definite nerve compression confirmed by MRI with flexible epiduroscopy of 0.9 mm outside diameter and Ho: YAG laser ablation under local anesthesia. Conclusion: As optical science and technology develops, t-SELD is suggested to be an effective therapeutic modality for patients with symptomatic HNP and can be performed safely without damage to normal anatomical structures. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.
