Alternative Materials for Chitin derived from Marine Organisms

The supply of chitin derived from crab and shrimp shells has become very difficult due to the rapid increase in environmental pollution and the manpower shortage in the fishing industry. The decline in economic value can also be a cause. The main reason is the decrease in industrial demand for chitin or deacetylated chitosan. In this paper, as one of the solutions to this problem, the author intends to secure chitin from materials that can be obtained on land or cultivated, and to suggest the possibility of replacing chitin derived from marine organisms. Therefore, the possibility of replacing chitin is suggested based on the structural analysis results of chitin derived from crab shells, chitin isolated from mushroom sporophytes, and chitin isolated from insect larval exoskeletons.
