Bridging environmental remediation and optoelectronics with a synergistic MoS2@Cu2O/Ag Z-scheme heterojunction

The development of multifunctional materials capable of integrating environmental remediation and optoelectronic performance remains a significant scientific challenge. In this work, a high-efficiency Z-scheme Agintegrated MoS2@Cu2O heterostructure was designed to achieve dual functionality under visible-light irradiation: efficient photocatalysis and high-sensitivity photodetection. The optimized MoS2@Cu2O/Ag-6 composite exhibited outstanding photocatalytic performance, achieving degradation efficiencies of 98.47% (k = 0.0505 min-1) for methylene blue (MB) and 97.7% (k = 0.02902 min-1) for crystal violet (CV). These enhancements are attributed to the synergistic effects of Ag-induced plasmonic activity and efficient interfacial charge separation within the Z-scheme architecture. When applied as a visible-light photodetector, the same heterostructure delivered remarkable optoelectronic characteristics, with a responsivity (R) of 341.8 mA W-1 and a specific detectivity (D*) of 9.229 & times; 1012 Jones, surpassing many conventional visible-light detectors. The incorporation of Ag nanoparticles enhanced responsivity and detectivity by 771% and 454%, respectively, underscoring their critical role in optimizing interfacial charge dynamics. This study demonstrates how the integration of Z-scheme charge transfer and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effects can simultaneously advance photocatalytic dye degradation and optoelectronic performance. The proposed Ag-decorated MoS2@Cu2O heterostructure thus provides a versatile and sustainable platform for next-generation applications in water purification and visible-light optoelectronic devices.
