초록

This cross-national study compared Korean and Chinese fathers to examine how the relationships among fathers' phubbing, parenting self-efficacy, and fathers' perceptions of their young children's social–emotional well-being manifest in the two societies. Survey data were obtained from 275 Korean and 302 Chinese fathers of children aged 3–5 years. Using multigroup structural equation modeling, we tested measurement invariance and compared structural relations between countries. Chinese fathers reported higher levels of phubbing across all subdimensions, whereas Korean fathers reported stronger positive parenting self-efficacy and higher perceptions of children’s self-control. In both groups, greater phubbing was associated with lower parenting self-efficacy, and higher parenting self-efficacy was associated with better children’s social–emotional well-being. A significant indirect pathway from phubbing to children’s social–emotional well-being via parenting self-efficacy emerged in both samples and was stronger among Korean fathers. The findings suggest that interventions for Chinese fathers may need to focus more directly on reducing phubbing behaviors, whereas support for Korean fathers may be more effective when it helps them recognize the adverse implications of phubbing and improve the quality of father–child interaction by building on their relatively high parenting self-efficacy.
