초록
Purpose – This study examines the effects of the local extinction response fund and the tourism demand on the living population in depopulation regions. Design, data, and methodology – Proxy variables were constructed for each component of the living population: registered resident population for the settled population, domestic and foreign visitors for the staying population, and registered foreigners for the foreign settled population. Annual panel data from 88 depopulation regions covering the period from 2019 to 2024 were collected and analyzed using a fixed effects(FE) model. Result – Tourism demand significantly increases the living population (settled and staying populations). In contrast, the local extinction response fund shows limited or negative independent effects. However, its interaction effect with tourism demand was found to have a significant positive effect, particularly on the settled and staying populations. Conclusions – Tourism demand contributes to increasing the living population in depopulation regions. The effect of the local extinction response fund is more pronounced when combined with the tourism demand, suggesting that linking fiscal support policies with tourism demand is essential for enhancing policy effectiveness.
