Catalytic reduction of toxins with metal nanoparticles fabricated in microgels and sodium borohydride: A comprehensive review

Content of toxic chemicals in water is increasing day-by-day and increasing health risks for living organisms. Different types of methods have been reported for removal of these pollutants. But the catalytic method is the best solution for it due to fast performance, complete pollutant removal, ease of process control, and reaction monitoring. The best material for these catalytic removal of pollutants from water is metal nanoparticles fabricated in microgels. A lot of work has been reported on it in the last few years. Therefore, a review has been written on catalytic activity of metal nanoparticles fabricated microgels (MNFM) (hybrid microgels). The design of MNFM is a pivoting point for the catalytic performance of these hybrid microgels and these morphologies are obtained by a specific synthetic method. Therefore, the identification of morphology of hybrid microgels (HM) is essential. This review aims to consolidate recent advancements in the classification, synthesis, and catalytic application of hybrid microgel systems. Furthermore, it facilitates an exploration of the factors affecting the catalytic performance of hybrid microgels. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.
