The Influence of Lifelong Learning Participation Motivation on Successful Aging Among the Baby Boomer Generation: The Sequential Double Mediating Effects of Self-Efficacy and Social Support

초록

This study aims to examine the effect of baby boomers’ motivation for participating in lifelong learning on successful aging and to verify the sequential dual mediating effects of self-efficacy and social support. A survey was administered to 415 baby boomers participating in lifelong learning programs and social activities in Gyeonggi Province from February 9 to 18, 2025, and the data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The analysis showed that lifelong learning motivation had a significant direct effect on successful aging (β = .256, p<.001), and a significant indirect effect sequentially mediated by self-efficacy and social support (β = .060, p<.05), indicating a partial mediation structure. These findings demonstrate that lifelong learning functions as a key mechanism that expands psychological and social resources among baby boomers and promotes successful aging, underscoring the need for lifelong learning systems that support not only knowledge acquisition but also psychological empowerment and social relationship building.
