A novel methionine-based pyrazole derivative as a corrosion inhibitor in 1 M HCl: Experimental and theoretical insights

This study reports the synthesis and evaluation of a novel compound, methyl bis((3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl) methyl)-DL-methioninate (MMPz), as an eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1 M HCl. MMPz exhibited a mixed-type inhibition behavior, predominantly anodic, with a maximum efficiency of 95 % at 10-3 M and 308 K. Surface and electrochemical analyses confirmed the formation of a stable protective film and suggested a chemical adsorption mechanism following the Langmuir isotherm. Computational modeling supported the experimental results by highlighting strong correlations between the molecular structure and inhibition performance. These findings position MMPz as a promising and sustainable corrosion inhibitor for acidic environments.
