Digital Literacy and Daily Life Satisfaction among People with Disabilities: The Mediating Effect of AI Use

초록

This study aimed to investigate the relationships among digital literacy, AI use, and daily life satisfaction, and examined the mediating role of AI use on the relationship between digital literacy and daily life satisfaction among people with disabilities. For this purpose, data from the 2024 Digital Divide Study conducted by the National Information Society Agency were utilized, and 948 individuals with disabilities who reported using AI technology were selected from the original dataset and analyzed using SPSS and PROCESS Macro. The findings were as follows. First, digital literacy was positively associated with AI use and daily life satisfaction, and AI use was also positively related to daily life satisfaction among people with disabilities. Second, after controlling for socio-demographic variables such as age, disability degree, educational level, and monthly income, digital literacy was a statistically significant variable in explaining the variance of daily life satisfaction and AI use among people with disabilities. Finally, AI use partially mediated the relationship between digital literacy and daily life satisfaction after controlling for socio-demographic factors. Based on these findings, the necessity of accessible and effective educational programs for empowering digital literacy and AI literacy among people with disabilities was discussed, and implications for improving digital inclusion and directions for further study were provided.
