‘생성 AI 화자’의 단어 형성: ChatGPT, Bard, CLOVA X를 대상으로

This article examines some issues in word formation from the perspective that words generated immediately by generative AI can also be studied in word formation theory. By applying both procedures of analysis/interpretation of existing words and formation/expression of new words, we observed that the generative AI represented by ChatGPT-4 understands and generates words in a very similar way to humans. Generative AI that engage in contextualized word analysis/formation based on encyclopedic knowledge produce answers that are comparable to humans and exceed expectations. Of course, the results of generative AI are not a direct “mirror” of human linguistic competence. But it’s clear that the technology is worth exploring as a tool for exploring human language abilities. At first glance, it may be considered that the questions and answers with the machines summarized in this article are only at the level of phenomenon description. However, while continuing to observe Generative AI’s abilities on (1) combination and substitution, (2) conceptualization and verbalization and (3) analysis and formation of metaphorical-based compound nouns discussed in Chapter 3, we can expect to gain a wealth of ideas for studying human language.
