『남북역사용어사전』 편찬과 남북 역사 인식 비교 ―고려시대를 중심으로―

초록

This study examines the discrepancies in historical perception between North and South Korea, focusing on selected headwords concerning the Goryeo Dynasty in the Inter-Korean Dictionary of Historical Terms—a landmark achievement of inter-Korean academic cooperation. Designed to overcome disparate historical narratives and ideologies developed post-division, this joint lexicographical project compiled 789 headwords spanning from the prehistoric era to the March 1st Movement. Unification of the Later Three Kingdoms: The South frames King Taejo’s reign through political integration and views the era as the "substantially first unification" that overcame Silla's geopolitical limits. Conversely, the North emphasizes Goguryeo’s succession and national legitimacy, labeling it the "first unified state" or "territorial unification." Foreign Resistance: Regarding the Khitan and Mongol invasions, the South analyzes multilateral geopolitics and multi-layered resistance (including the Sambyeolcho). The North adopts a strict bilateral, state-to-state framework, excluding non-state actors while glorifying the subaltern masses' patriotic struggles. Perception of the Populace (Min): While the South broadly labels popular uprisings as "rebellions" (nan), the North utilizes historical materialism to categorize peasant revolts as "riots"—recontextualized positively as active class struggles and drivers of social progress. These descriptive variances stem from institutional methodologies: South Korea’s entries, penned by individual researchers, exhibit intellectual diversity but lack structural cohesion, whereas North Korea’s entries, produced through collective consensus by the Academy of Social Sciences, demonstrate superior systematic consistency. Ultimately, while these linguistic discrepancies reflect the political realities of national division, this collaborative endeavor serves as a crucial catalyst for mutual understanding and future academic exchange.
