Highly reliable textile-based stretchable photo-heating platform: Wearable OLEDs with Kirigami-patterned transferable transparent stretchable electronics

Recent advancements in electronic devices have prioritized wearable healthcare applications, emphasizing the need for transparent, stretchable electronics. Conventional electronics often struggle with stretchability and transferability. Therefore, this research presents stretchable and transparent electrodes and provides multifunctional stretchable PHOLEDs to overcome limitations of current wearable healthcare electronics. Additionally, through application of highly transparent, gas-impermeable, and ultraflexible encapsulation multilayer, highly reliable stretchable photo-heating platform was realized not only in high-temperature and high-humidity environments but also in water. In this study, the transferable transparent stretchable heater achieved an average transmittance of 71 % and stretchability of 80 %. It reached temperatures commonly used in the medical field, ranging from 40 to 47 degrees C, and maintained stable operation even after transfer, with minimal changes in resistance. A textile-based stretchable photo-heating platform has been demonstrated by transferring stretchable OLED onto a transparent stretchable heater, allowing light to be successfully transmitted through the transparent areas while simultaneously functioning as both a heating element and a photo sensor. Finally, we demonstrated the potential for implementing ultimate theranostics that can induce changes in biological blood flow through heat generation and light transmission of the multifunctional PHOLED, as well as real-time diagnosis of blood flow changes.
