초록

Development of lab-on-chip devices, portable platforms, or miniaturized devices for analytical systems requires advanced materials that can help convert an input such as radiation, ions, molecules into a signal such as electrical (current ( I ), voltage ( V ), or resistance ( R )), optical output (color, light intensity, or transparency) that we can define them faster with high accuracy and selectivity. However, information could not be directly given through a simple interaction of matter or produce a weak signal. However, radiation, matter, or interactions can be detected based on the interaction of a functionalized material with the input target such as light, temperature, or redox reaction for the signal detection. Technology development has made our life more convenient through many compatible devices. Therefore, miniaturization of optoelectronic devices and wearable devices has become inevitable. At a small scale, an analytical tool requires to build up a micro-/nanosystem made by using nanotechnology and nanomaterials. The structural design of miniaturized materials requires thin, conductive, and transparent electrodes, as well as increased active area. Moreover, thin two-dimensional ( 2D ) materials such as graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, MXenes, or 2D oxide materials having excellent physical, chemical, and electronic properties can be matched to the requirements of portable analytical devices. With the development of nanotechnology, 2D materials with their own advantageous characteristics are employed and functionalized to make them suitable for each targeted application. This chapter provides a critical overview of 2D functionalized materials with appropriate methods for fabrication and their properties for miniaturized devices.
