The Effects of University Students' Sports Participation Motivation on Physical Self-Concept and Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy

초록

This study examined the effects of sports participation motivation on physical self-concept and career decision self-efficacy among university students, a group in a critical stage of identity formation and career exploration. Data were collected from 311 university students in Gyeonggi-do and analyzed using SPSS 28.0 through exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The findings are as follows. First, regarding physical self-concept, Health and Fitness motivation had a negative (-) effect on health and uncertainty and a positive (+) effect on self-esteem. Social motivation had a negative (-) effect only on health, while External Display motivation had a significant positive (+) effect on health and uncertainty. Second, concerning career decision self-efficacy, Health and Fitness motivation had a significant positive (+) effect on career selection trust, career self-confidence, and career selection resilience. In contrast, Social motivation and External Display motivation did not have significant effects on any sub-factors of career decision self-efficacy. These results suggest that sports participation motivation plays a differentiated role in shaping university students’ physical self-concept and career-related psychological resources, depending on the type of motivation.
