초록

Many emerging contaminants (ECs) exist in the aquatic environment and have raised concern due to their links to negative ecological effects on the environment and human health. Development of advanced technologies for treatment of these contaminants has been increasingly gained attention among the general public and the scientific community. Photodegradation has been regarded as one of the most promising approaches for the removal of ECs from the environment due to its high efficiency, economic and a green way. In this technology, the EC degradation is proceed by either oxidation or reduction routes, which can be referred as advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) and advanced reduction processes (ARPs) respectively. In this chapter, we provide and summarize the current progress of photodegradation technologies in removal of well-known ECs pollutants such as plasticizers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs), pesticides, hormones, and perfluorinated compounds. The photocatalytic mechanisms for degradation of ECs pollutants are deeply discussed and clarified. Furthermore, the state-of-the-art development of advanced visible light driven photocatalysts is emphasized. The photodegradation technologies based on the visible light driven catalysts are one of the most promising approaches for effectively removing ECs toward the friendly environment and sustainability. © 2024 American Chemical Society.
