Digital technology innovation, value chain reshaping and digital transformation

This paper systematically examines the driving mechanism and heterogeneous characteristics of digital technology innovation on the modernization of industrial chains based on data from Chinese manufacturing listed enterprises from 2012 to 2023. The findings are as follows: First, digital technology innovation significantly promotes the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry. Second, value chain upgrading plays a crucial mediating role. Digital technology innovation reshapes the value-added distribution across research and development design, production and manufacturing, and marketing service links, thereby generating industrial chain synergy effects. Further heterogeneous analysis indicates that the marginal effect of digital technology innovation on digital transformation is significantly higher for state-owned enterprises compared to private enterprises.
