초록

In order to enhance the performance of a praseodymium doped fiber amplifier (PDFA), which operates in the spectral region between 1280 and 1350 nm, and also make it applicable in WDM communication systems, a study is performed. The PDFA is examined based on the performance when used in an eight-channel WDM system with 10 nm channel spacing operating at a rate of 100 Gb/s. With an optimum input power equal to -20 dBm for each channel, the PDFA shows an average gain value of 34.73 dB and noise figure of 4.88 dB. Thus, a comprehensive study shows that the optimal PDF length and pump wavelength values are equal to 15 m and 1030 nm, respectively. A comparative study of the PDFA operation with various pumping wavelengths and power values demonstrates how the performance depends on the characteristics of the pumping source. Also, the effects of changes in input signal power, PDF length, and Pr3+ dopant concentration on the PDFA gain are studied. Additionally, the electrical signals generated meet desirable standards in terms of both Q-factor and bit error rate (BER). In summary, this study provides valuable insights about PDFA performance enhancement, thus making it an indispensable part of fast WDM optical networks.
