공화주의의 실현을 위한 교육 개혁: 비경쟁 교육지대의 필요성과 정책 방안
초록
This study proposes the concept of a 'non-competitive educational zone' as an alternative institutional framework to alleviate the destructive, high-intensity 'long-term educational competition' in South Korean education. While hyper-competition stems from external socioeconomic factors such as economic stagnation and labor market disparity, past educational reforms have exacerbated the problem by merely shifting competition formats while neglecting these underlying structures. Drawing upon Republican principles of civic virtue and liberty as non-domination, this paper argues for building robust defensive walls within the educational sphere. Concretely, it suggests a structural approach based on three principles: 'short, simple, and easy,' which isolates students from early childhood to the first year of high school from university entrance pressures and compresses inevitable differentiation and evaluation into the latter half of high school. This study acknowledges the limitation that education cannot fundamentally block class reproduction. Nevertheless, it demonstrates that institutionally controlling the duration and intensity of competition can counter the 'warlike socialization' imposed by boundless competition, thereby establishing the minimal structural foundation necessary for Republican education to function.
