전통시장 관광에서의 진정성 경험에 관한 현상학적 분석
초록
Purpose – Recently, traditional markets have established themselves as popular tourist destinations attracting a large number of visitors. This study aims to analyze tourism experiences in traditional markets through the lens of phenomenology, with particular emphasis on the authenticity perceived by tourists in their market experiences. Design, data, and methodology – In-depth interviews were conducted with 22 participants who had visited traditional markets for tourism purposes. Through qualitative analysis, their experiences of objective, constructive, and existential authenticity were identified. The collected data were qualitatively analyzed from a phenomenological perspective using Colaizzi’s (1978) seven-step method of analysis. Result – Tourists experience objective authenticity by directly encountering the distinctive local identity embedded in these markets. The efforts of both market vendors and the markets themselves to meet tourists’ expectations were found to generate constructive authenticity as perceived by visitors. Within traditional markets, tourists were shown to experience existential authenticity, momentarily escaping from the norms of everyday life and feeling as though they had returned to the past. Conclusions – The results of this study contribute to understanding and expanding the potential of traditional markets as tourist attractions. Furthermore, the findings may provide valuable insights into how tourist destinations can balance and satisfy tourists’ diverse desires for objective, constructive, and existential authenticity.
