CFD-Based Analysis of Indoor Thermal Environment and Spatial Utilization in Dormitories

This study analyzes the indoor thermal environment and spatial utilization characteristics of a dormitory room using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. CFD analysis was conducted to evaluate indoor airflow velocity, pressure, and temperature distribution according to HVAC operating conditions and equipment layout. The results showed that relatively stable airflow and thermal conditions were maintained within the occupant activity zone, while localized airflow concentration and pressure variations occurred near the HVAC discharge area. In addition, HVAC location and discharge angle conditions significantly affected indoor airflow and thermal environment characteristics. Based on the CFD analysis results, the study proposed occupant-centered spatial utilization guidelines according to indoor environmental characteristics. The results confirm that CFD-based analysis can be effectively utilized as a design review method for evaluating indoor thermal environment and HVAC layout planning in dormitory facilities.
