초록

This paper traces the trajectory of Choi In-hun’s postcolonial thought through recurring animal figures in The Grey Man, Typhoon, and Hwadu, where Choi invokes biological predation metaphors but shifts their position and terms from text to text. In The Grey Man, Dokgo Jun exposes the advanced-backward hierarchy as predatory through the cat-and-mouse metaphor and refuses the race through the Achilles-and-tortoise metaphor, yet cannot extinguish the desire for the advanced position. In Typhoon, the imperial gaze treating the colonized as the postcolonial subject internalizes eyeglass-frame material, while the lion-and-lamb metaphor shows that linear developmental logic persists even within collective liberation. In Hwadu, the terms shift from West versus non-West to individual life versus civilization: the baby sea turtle–armored creature metaphor makes visible what the race’s logic never captured, reaching the insight that any grand ideology reproduces predatory hierarchy once it instrumentalizes individual life.
