초록
PURPOSE This study aims to identify and prioritize students’ educational needs regarding convergence (interdisciplinary) majors in order to provide implications for the successful establishment and operation of such majors. METHOD To this end, a questionnaire was developed by synthesizing prior research, and a survey was administered to 100 undergraduate students. The collected data were first analyzed using t-tests to examine statistically significant differences between the current level and the required (desired) level. Subsequently, Borich’s needs assessment was applied to calculate needs values for each item and determine their priorities. In addition, the Locus for Focus Model was employed to conduct a weighted priority analysis of the gaps between the required and current levels. RESULT First, flexibility in academic regulations, equal recognition with the primary major, and the assignment of a dedicated teaching assistant were identified as the highest-priority factors. Second, curriculum specialization and promotion of convergence majors, which ranked highly in Borich’s needs assessment, were suggested as the next priorities. CONCLUSION To ensure the successful operation of convergence majors, universities need to address administrative gaps and provide appropriate promotion at appropriate times. Additionally, it is necessary to lower the barriers to entry for students in selecting convergence majors.
