초록

The urban modernization of Paris, France in the 19th century, is significant in urban history as the origin of themodern city. The urban modernization of Paris was more than a reorganization the physical urban space; it was a series ofprocesses that created historical actions and structures. From this perspective, this study selected the physical urban space asthe research subject and conducted urban cultural research. The specific research subject is the urban park created during theSecond Empire of France. The modern urban park of Paris is valuable as the first urban space created for the modernizationof Paris. The most notable characteristic of the urban park of Paris in the 19th century lies in the planner. The modern urbanpark of Paris was created by Adolphe Alphand(1817-1891), a civil engineer, rather than a landscape architect. This symbolicallyshows that the perspective of the modern urban planning of Paris in the 19th century was aimed at spatial reorganizationcentered on technology. The goal was to maximize the use of technology for urban planning while providing comfort to thecitizens in their daily lives as a result. For this purpose, the urban park was created in Paris as a representative invention ofthe modern Parisian city. The urban park, an architectural nature built by highly skilled engineers, was replaced by an abstractspace where Paris' unique urban culture was born beyond the physical space. This study established a series of processesthat created a new urban culture through such physical urban space planning as the concept of urban modernism.
