Design of Whiffletree Based on Flight Loads of Aircraft Suspension Mounting Asymmetric External Stores

초록

Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles and fighters have been equipped with external stores. Due to their significant payload capacity, these external stores play a crucial role in the load distribution on the armament suspension that supports them during loading and release operations. In this study, we aimed to develop a Whiffletree structure that is essential for conducting ground-based structural tests on the armament suspension’s load-bearing capacities. To achieve this goal, the Whiffletree structure was designed and analyzed to accommodate various loading and releasing conditions associated with different types of external stores. Furthermore, the designed Whiffletree structure was compared with the actual applied forces using a finite element analysis model. This comparison ensured that the structural integrity of the design was thoroughly assessed. Considering the specific characteristics of the four external stores used in this study’s armament suspension, a single-stage Whiffletree structure was designed. Importantly, this design could operate safely within the limits of the actuator’s power capacity.
